Baking is good for the heart and the soul, and so is good music. So why not combine the two? The next time you pull out your rolling pin and your paper baking cups, grab your iPod or Bluetooth speaker and crank up your mixer as you crank up the tunes. Here are some sweet songs to put you in a baking mood.
I Can’t Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch) by The Four Tops. Even if you’re not familiar with the original 1965 version, this iconic song has been covered so extensively since then (and featured in so many commercials), that most everyone is well-acquainted with it.
Pure Imagination by Gene Wilder. This song was written specifically for the 1971 movie Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory. In the film, the song begins as Wonka opens the doors of his chocolate room before strolling along the banks of the chocolate river. As an alternative or addition to this tune, try The Candy Man as performed by Aubrey Woods; the lyrics are perfect for swaying to the baking beat.
Sugar by Maroon 5. Crooner Adam Levine hits all the right notes with this top 10, Grammy-nominated single that combines funk-pop and soul music. Cue the music video of the song, which features Adam and the band crashing real-life weddings, while your baked goods are in the oven.
Shake It Off by Taylor Swift. Despite the lack of saccharine-inspired lyrics, this is a song that won’t let you stand still or keep quiet. Shimmy around your kitchen while you sing aloud and find baking inspiration in the tune’s encouraging beat.
